Milan in no hurry to agree new contract with Donnarumma, says Maldini

Milan will do their all to agree a new contract with Gianluigi Donnarumma but are in no rush to do so, according to technical director Paolo Maldini.

Donnarumma made his debut for Milan as a 16-year-old in 2015-16 and has already appeared more than 200 times, but his current deal is due to expire next year..

The Italian side revealed last month talks are ongoing with the young goalkeeper over extending his stay at San Siro beyond the end of this season.

Maldini has hailed the growing influence of Donnarumma on the field and is hopeful the contract saga will soon come to an end.

Gigio is becoming more and more of a leader and is growing game after game, Maldini told Sky Sport Italia. He is just 21 but already has over 200 appearances for Milan.

Rooney believes in Premier League ability

It s important to understand football. It is not all about running round, it is about using your head to play the game.

Sometimes that gets lost, because you don t score as many goals or whatever. Given the right team around me, then I could still play in the Premier League.

The two teams I played for in the Premier League were Manchester United and Everton. I am at Derby now, and hopefully we can get there with them.

Those are the words of Derby County star Wayne Rooney who is aiming to fire the Rams back towards the Premier League upon officially joining next month.

Alas, while many will see this as him committing his future to Derby, there’s also a chance that he’s letting the world know that he’d be open to an actual move back to a…

Argentina 3-0 Honduras: Martinez and Messi strike in first half of friendly win

Argentina were too good in their dominant 3-0 friendly win against Honduras on Friday, with two goals and an assist from Lionel Messi in a starring performance.

Messi set up a goal and finished a penalty in an excellent first half, before capping off the outing with a long-range chip to capitalise on a defensive mistake.

Julian Alvarez and Giovani Lo Celso also manufactured openings as Argentina racked up 17 shots to Honduras two, but ultimately this would be the Messi show.

Argentina opened the scoring in the 16th minute, when Messi delivered a spectacular ball from the centre of the park to find Papu Gomez on his run into the box from the left wing, giving him the chance to roll a simple squaring pass to Lautaro Martinez in the six-yard box for a tap-in.

Alex Morgan joy as USWNT star scores first Tottenham goal

Alex Morgan got off the mark for Tottenham as the United States star scored her first Women s Super League goal in a 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

Morgan signed for Spurs in September, having not played since August 2019 due to her pregnancy and the pandemic.

The World Cup-winning forward made her Tottenham debut last month, in a 1-1 draw with Reading, before making her first start in a 2–2 stalemate with Bristol City.

She missed a crucial penalty in a 5-4 shoot-out defeat to north London rivals Arsenal in the League Cup, but Morgan kept her nerve from the spot this time around.

The moment we ve all been waiting for!

A first goal for from the penalty spot to give a third!

Almiron denies Grealish comments are motivating factor behind recent form

Miguel Almiron has dismissed suggestions his and Newcastle United s recent form is related to disparaging comments made by Jack Grealish.

The rapid winger won the Premier League s Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards for October after scoring six times in six games, with a spectacular strike at Fulham winning him the latter prize.

Only Manchester City s Erling Haaland matched Almiron s October goals return, but when asked if comments from Haaland s team-mate Grealish played a part, Almiron said no.

The England international made the remark during last season s title celebrations, suggesting to team-mate Bernardo Silva that Riyad Mahrez needed to be substituted in the final game against Aston Villa because he was playing like Almiron.

Disappointed Maatsen willing to wait for maiden Netherlands cap

Ian Maatsen is disappointed not to have made the cut for the Netherlands Nations League squad, but is willing to wait it out.

Maatsen, who was initially a surprise omission from the Dutch Euro 2024 squad before he was called up as a late replacement for the injured Frenkie de Jong, was not included by Ronald Koeman in the squad for the fixtures against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Germany.

The left-back, who helped Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final last season before joining Aston Villa from Chelsea, is yet to feature in a senior game for his nation.

Instead, he is a standout name in the Netherlands Under-21 squad.

And while he is frustrated not to have made the cut for Koeman s selection, the 22-year-old will bide his time.
