Deschamps launches defence of Mbappe as France forward aims for history at Euro 2024

Kylian Mbappe may not be firing on all cylinders but Didier Deschamps says the France captain is aiming for even more history at Euro 2024.

The Real Madrid-bound forward has scored just once at the tournament in Germany from 20 attempts, a penalty against Poland in Les Bleus final group game.

Mbappe has managed just one goal overall from 34 shots at the European Championships, a contrast to his record at the World Cup, where he has scored 12 goals from 39 efforts.

Yet in this edition of UEFA s top international tournament, the former Paris Saint-Germain star has been hampered by a broken nose that has forced him to wear a protective mask when playing.

The 25-year-old has repeatedly cited his frustrations at wearing the protective equipment, which some hav…

Dyche hails ´mixed football´ as Burnley eclipse 2016-17 away points total with Everton win

Sean Dyche says Burnley s increased ability to mix up their tactics has led to improved away results after a 1-0 win at Everton on Sunday saw his side move up to sixth in the Premier League.

Dyche s men have taken eight points from testing trips to Stamford Bridge, Wembley, Anfield and Goodison Park this season, collecting two wins and two draws against four of last season s top-seven sides, topping last season s points total on the road already.

Often pegged as long-ball spoilers, Burnley have demonstrated greater flexibility in their style this season and Jeff Hendrick scored the only goal against Everton, finishing off a flowing 24-pass move midway through the first half.

Although the hosts dominated possession in the second half and recorded 23 shots to Burnl…

2008/09 Premier League Predictions: Places 1-10 (Part II)

1 Chelsea

Having lost the Champions League Final on penalties and been pipped to the Premiership title by just two points, Chelsea were the ultimate bridesmaid last season.
After a summer to lick their wounds, the Blues will come back stronger in 08/09.

With Luiz Felipe Scolari now at the helm and having captured Deco and Jose Bosingwa this summer, Chelsea have what it takes to beat United to the league title this time around.

The Stamford Bridge club have achieved a massive victory in maintaining Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, even if its only for another year. Time in which to win a league title.

2 Manchester United

United are likely to be without Ronaldo for August and September, meaning their star winger will miss trips to Liverpool (13 …

Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions, Picks, Odds & Season Preview for 2024-25: Offensive Woes

The Pittsburgh Steelers answered their offseason questions with more questions. What is this, a presidential debate?

The franchise replaced much-maligned offensive coordinator Matt Canada with Arthur Smith, fresh from a forgettable stint in Atlanta, and tried to solve their continuing post-Roethlisberger woes with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields — two QBs who got run out of their starting jobs.

Those uncertainties have the Steelers on track for Mike Tomlin’s first losing season, at least that’s what the NFL odds think. Pittsburgh is a favorite in only six games and the season win total sits on the fence at 8.5 with a lean to the Under.

Life in the AFC North and a 2024 schedule that ranks among the toughest in the league are helping an…

Guardiola refuses to blame Laporte red for Manchester City’s defeat to Palace

Patrick Vieira said his players “suffered” during their 2-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium while Pep Guardiola refused to blame Aymeric Laporte’s red card and Gabriel Jesus’s VAR-adjudged offside goal for the champions’ second defeat of the season.

Wilfried Zaha was the standout performer in what was Palace’s first away win, scoring the opener and later in the first half forcing Laporte, as the last man, to wrestle him to the grass. Laporte was sent off by Andre Marriner and Zaha’s devilry subsequently caused Bernardo Silva to be booked for chopping him down.

Ten Hag ignores Manchester United treble ‘motivation’ for FA Cup final

Erik ten Hag denied that Manchester United required the luck of a controversial Bruno Fernandes goal to beat Manchester City in January’s derby, with the manager pointing to his side’s superior expected goals (xG) in the game.

That match at Old Trafford ended 2-1 to Ten Hag’s team and came after the champions had humiliated United 6-3 in October’s reverse fixture. City took the lead through a Jack Grealish header before Fernandes equalised. The goal was initially ruled out because Marcus Rashford was in an offside position but was awarded after the forward was deemed not to be interfering with play. Rashford later scored the winner.
